The first time I heard about Rocket League was when Playstation included this as one of the free games for PS Plus subscribers for the month of July. When I first saw the trailer of the free games, I was like, this Rocket League is really something but it just wasn’t for me. Then all the praises from blogs and gamers came, I started to watch the gameplay on Youtube but still, the game is not worth it. First, I am not a car guy, I am not into online multiplayer game and lastly, I am not a fan of Soccer/Football but all of these changes when I heard that this game already hit 5M downloads in less than a month so I gave this game a shot, downloaded it since it’s free because I am a PS Plus subscriber, and it starts my addiction to this game.
Rocket League is a simple but fun game. You don’t have to be a skilled gamer to enjoy this game. The controls are simple and for a newbie, there’s a very helpful tutorial wherein it will walk you through with the overall game controls.
The game is simple, you’ll have a choose a car of your choosing, select a game type, whether it will be a 1 on 1 game, 2 on 2, 3 on 3 or 4 on 4, and just Soccer, the team who scores the most points in 5 minutes wins.
As for the car, you will have an option to choose from 11 bodies, which most of it are unlockables including Sweet Tooth body from Twisted Metal Game. You can also customize your car by adding decals, paint, wheels, rocket trail, topper and antenna but these add-ons are for visual upgrades only and it doesn’t affect the performance of the car, it all depends on the user on how he/she will control the car.
Online multiplayer is fun where in you can play with your PSN friends, find a random match or have a private match plus, with the release of the latest patch wherein players rankings are updated, online players will definitely step on the gas to gain the top ranking.
Single player is as fun as online mode wherein you can play an exhibition game or a full season mode where you can have your own team of 4 cars and battle against 9 teams in the season mode to get that championship trophy.
The graphics of Rocket League is outstanding as it runs in Unreal Engine 3, similar with Batman: Arkham Knight however, you don’t get to feel the power of the graphics as the game is simple and fast paced that you will not notice the details of every car and stadiums in the game.
There’s not much of a big sound or music involved in this game however, I love the noise within the arena where you can hear all the spectators cheer for you like it is like a real Soccer game and the sound of explosion when you hit your opponent with your demolition move.
The Rocket League original soundtrack was released both physically and digitally on July 1, 2015, 6 days before the game’s official launch and it contains original compositions by Psyonix sound designer Mike Ault, as well as two contributions by Hollywood Principle.
Rocket League is a very fun, entertaining and addicting game, and just like other sports game, players will have to master every move and controls to easily win the game, both in a single player or multiplayer game. The tutorial mode is a big help for starters and setting a rookie level in season mode is the best way for players to practice their skills for them to be ready in online game or game with friends.
With this kind of fast paced and addicting game, Rocket League’s replay value is really high.
Rocket League is a simple and very addicting game. You’ll enjoy this game even if you’re not a fan of cars, Soccer or online game just like me. Customizing your car is also fun and the joy of scoring a goal is really something.
